There was a last minute change to our planned meeting. Instead of the planned New Age Kurling, we were joined by Nick Carson. Following new defibrillators in the village, it was thought timely to have some advice on when and how to use them. Nick Carson is a local paramedic and explained to us the difference between a heart attack and cardiac arrest. He gave a demonstration on CPR as well as talking about how to use defibrillators. Whilst perhaps a sombre topic for a meeting, it was well recieved and gave people a little more confidence in what to do when faced with a cardiac arrest.
We do not have a meeting in January but that did not stop us getting together for some social time. We held our first Pool Night! Meeting in the Snug at The Anchor, we played several rounds of pool, and enjoyed a good chat as well as pizza, chips and garlic bread. It was certainly a different start to the year and we are grateful for Jack and The Anchor team for supporting us in the event.
Yes, another meal! This time at Holland House; a wonderful meal in a beautiful setting followed by singing of Carols. A lovely way to end the year.
Our local Church held its annual Festival of Light with a variety of Christmas Trees on display. Following our recent craft afternoon, we were ready to show our Tree with its felt jam jars and scrolls of Jerusalem .....
Our Christmas Lunch with 20 members was held at The Anchor. A lovely meal with plenty to eat and great conversation, Jack and the Anchor team did a wonderful job in hosting us. And oh yes, another bingo game but this time Rock & Roll Bingo!
Our last meeting of the year was a Christmas Celebration, We had a shared supper with lots on offer, Christmas readings from members, Pass the Parcel game and finally a game of Christmas Bingo. Members also brought items to donate to the Pershore Community Cupboard Christmas Appeal. A lovely end to our meetings for the year ...... but not the end of our Christmas celebrations.
In honour of veterans all around the world, Eckington WI were proud to take part in the Eckington Remembrance Day Service, with our Vice-President laying the wreath on our behalf.
Yes, November was a very crafty month for Eckington WI. We started at our meeting with a talk by our local artist Sian Thomas. We learned about her life in art and how she became involved in watercolours, producing fabulous pictures we all love; she specialises in buildings and quirky pictures of everyday objects. There was a wonderful display of her work at the meeting. We also had our own members selling their own craft work for Christmas.
The week after her talk, Sian led a group of our ladies in a watercolour art workshop. Our craft month finished with another workshop for members, This time we were making felt decorations for the WI Christmas Tree that will be on display at Eckington Church for the village Christmas Tree Festival (Friday 7th December to Sunday 9th December). Our theme will be revealed at the Festival although if you look at the photos, you may get a hint! Shopping & lunch - what a good combination! So it was that several members braved the rain and travelled to the Jinny Ring Centre. After exploring the various craft & gift shops, we settled into the Barn for a lovely lunch - lots to choose from!
Our speaker for our October meeting told us about the Associated Country Women of the World. There is a long association and strong relationship between Associated Country Women of the World (ACWW) and the National Federation of Women’s Institutes (NFWI), although they remain two separate and independent charities with separate governance, missions, and separate charitable objects. NFWI and ACWW remain strong partner organisations with many shared goals and ambitions with regard to supporting women. By the end of the evening, we had a much better understanding of the ACWW.
