Our local church held its first Christmas Tree Festival this year and along with many other villagers and village groups, our WI contributed a tree. Ours was a recycled tree using wind blown branches as the tree and newspapers, magazines and wool for the decorations. The first photo below is our tree followed by some of the others on display.
Having missed our Christmas Lunch last year, we were really pleased to be able to meet this year and indeed, 15 members of our WI got together at one of our local pubs for Christmas Lunch. Dressed in our Christmas jumpers, some with hats and other Christmas accessories, we enjoyed a 3 course lunch with lovely service by the team at The Anchor. PS - the card was from the team at The Anchor. How lovely was that!
For our December meeting, we went back to the 1960s! Ruth Lowe, a collector and expert on all things Mary Quant, gave a very interesting talk on Mary Quant and her earlier career from the 1950s to the 1960s with a selection of original clothes and accessories for us all to admire. Our ladies came suitably dressed in a variety of 1960s styles from mini skirts to the hippy look. We followed the talk with a 1960s style buffet including cheese & pineapple, quiche, stuffed eggs, amongst other delightful savouries and for dessert, the 60s classic - trifles, with 1960s pop music playing in the background. A great trip (no pun intended!) down memory lane.
