March was a month of varied weather so we were lucky that we held our Tewkesbury walk on a dry Monday. Several members enjoyed a walk along the River Avon at the back of Tewkesbury town, admiring the old buildings and architecture, and learning about the history of Tewkesbury from the information boards along the way. Having reached the end of the walk, we made an unscheduled visit to the Abbey to see the beautiful stained glass windows and finally finished at The Rosada Lunch for a well deserved lunch; just in time missing the rain!
Our March Meeting was an energetic romp through the night sky with Hugh Farey. Accompanied by his slides, Hugh gave an entertaining talk on how the constellations were named, how science has helped us understand the universe and much more. A great talk!
For our extra activity this month, we decided to lunch. Keeping close to home, we chose The Bell and several members joined in for a light lunch and an enjoyable chat.
Our monthly coffee mornings are alternated between our 2 local village pubs, The Bell and The Anchor. The coffee mornings are a chance for members to socialise a little more as well as being an opportunity for prospective new members to join us in an informal setting. This month was the turn of The Anchor and what a welcome we had - tables nicely laid out with a great assortment of cakes. Thanks Jack!
There was a last minute change to our planned meeting. Instead of the planned New Age Kurling, we were joined by Nick Carson. Following new defibrillators in the village, it was thought timely to have some advice on when and how to use them. Nick Carson is a local paramedic and explained to us the difference between a heart attack and cardiac arrest. He gave a demonstration on CPR as well as talking about how to use defibrillators. Whilst perhaps a sombre topic for a meeting, it was well recieved and gave people a little more confidence in what to do when faced with a cardiac arrest.
We do not have a meeting in January but that did not stop us getting together for some social time. We held our first Pool Night! Meeting in the Snug at The Anchor, we played several rounds of pool, and enjoyed a good chat as well as pizza, chips and garlic bread. It was certainly a different start to the year and we are grateful for Jack and The Anchor team for supporting us in the event.
Yes, another meal! This time at Holland House; a wonderful meal in a beautiful setting followed by singing of Carols. A lovely way to end the year.
Our local Church held its annual Festival of Light with a variety of Christmas Trees on display. Following our recent craft afternoon, we were ready to show our Tree with its felt jam jars and scrolls of Jerusalem .....
Our Christmas Lunch with 20 members was held at The Anchor. A lovely meal with plenty to eat and great conversation, Jack and the Anchor team did a wonderful job in hosting us. And oh yes, another bingo game but this time Rock & Roll Bingo!
Our last meeting of the year was a Christmas Celebration, We had a shared supper with lots on offer, Christmas readings from members, Pass the Parcel game and finally a game of Christmas Bingo. Members also brought items to donate to the Pershore Community Cupboard Christmas Appeal. A lovely end to our meetings for the year ...... but not the end of our Christmas celebrations.
